Anyone who knows me knows that I love Disney, especially their animated classics. So for my next unsolicited but important opinion I'm going to rank every Walt Disney Animation Studios Picture from 58 to 1. I'm spicing things up because number 58 will only have a one word review, 57 a two word review and so one until Number 1 has a 58 word review.

58. Dinosaur

Ugly

57. Home on the Range

Roseanne Cow

56. Make Mine Music

Never Seen it.

55. Melody Time

Johnny Appleseed's in it.

54. Fun and Fancy Free

Ventriloquists are scary. Kinda bland.

53. The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad

Two almost movies crammed into one

52. The Three Caballeros

Good neighbor policy gives Donald a squad.

51. Saludos Amigos

Animation used to promote peace and stop Nazis.

50. Oliver and Company

Billy Joel sings in this Dickens Adaptation. Song's catchy.

49. Bolt

I've seen this movie. Barely remember it. Miley's in it.

48. Atlantis: The Lost Empire

Watched this in college. It was fine. Don't understand the hype.

47. Dumbo

This movie makes me cry, is racist, and boring. Babysitters hate it.

46. Aristocats

Better than cats the musical but that's not saying much. Edgar is lame.

45. One Hundred and One Dalmatians

Cruella is iconic. The rest of it all blurs together. But kids love Dalmatians.

44. Lilo and Stitch

Ohana means family, family means nobody get left behind or forgotten. Stitch burps on you.

43. The Jungle Book

Mowgli really sucks. Sorry not sorry. The songs are bops. The animation is a little lackluster.

42. Chicken Little

Watched this mediocre movie twice when we rented it from Blockbuster. Introduced me to the Spice Girls.

41. Lady and the Tramp

The most iconic kiss of all time. Lady is a cute pupper. The cats are racist AF.

40. Winnie the Pooh

Winnie the Pooh is very cute but I never saw this movie. The Pooh gang is Squad goals.

39. Bambi

The movie that traumatizes each generation. Depicts all the adorableness, beauty and terror of nature. Deer are my favorite animal.

38. Fantasia 2000

I like the Wood Sprite. Sprites should be in more media. Nymph erasure is everywhere. Donald Duck stars in Noah's Ark.

37. Fantasia

Chernobog is a terrifying demon defeated by Ave Maria. My Catholic heart loves that. It also features dinosaurs and fairies and Mickey.

36. The Princess and the Frog

I want this movie to be better than it is because representation matters. It's not great. I blame Randy Newman and bad writing.

35. Pinocchio

When You Wish Upon a star is iconic but let's be real, Pinocchio is kind boring and this movie is terrifying. Quality lederhosen featured.

34. Hercules

There are some really good parts in this movie. The Gospel Music, the stylized animation, sleazy Hades. But Greek Mythology movies are never great. Overrated

33. Meet the Robinsons

Bowler Hat guy walked so Professor Doofenshmirtz could run. The T-Rex bit is great. Rob Thomas sings a jam. But overall average. The animation looks plastic.

32. The Fox and the Hound

This movies makes me cry when Widow Tweed leaves Copper in the woods and sings. Big Mama is goals. Best friends torn apart hurts my heart. Sad.

31. The Rescuers

This movie is so 70s. I love Miss Bianca. Madame Medusa's plan makes no sense if you think about it. I love that the mice UN rescues kids.

30. The Rescuers Down Under

As a child my siblings made me feel this movie was better because they liked to reinforce the message that female characters were inherently inferior. This movie is good.

29. The Lion King

I know this is a hot take but this movie is overrated. Like it's good, I cry when Mufasa dies. But Simba is bland and the message is real weird.

28. Tarzan

Two worlds, one Phil Collins. Loved this movie as a kid but kinda meh on it now. You'll be in my heart is a tear-jerker. Tarzan is oddly hairless. Minnie Driver!

27. The Sword in the Stone

Merlin is a fun doofy wizard in a fun doofy movie that I very much enjoyed as a wee lad. Archimedes is goals. Madame Mim is a fun villain. A little aimless.

26. Ralph Breaks the Internet

It's like the Emoji movie but good. The stuff with the Princesses was fun and actually creative not just Buzzfeed regurgitated. I thought the ending was real sad and undercut the first movie.

25. Treasure Planet

I thought this movie was real fresh and edgy as a tween. The Space Pirate world is unique and cool. There’s a great Goo Goo Dolls song and a complicated father/son/villain relationship.

24. The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh

Cute and cuddly and sweet. The days before Winnie the Pooh movies were committed to making you sob. Piglet is my fav but Pooh is a body positivity icon. This movie is like a hug.

23. Brother Bear

So underrated. A beautiful story about growth, brotherhood and the majesty of nature. Heartfelt, funny, and stunning to look at. Kenai and Koda’s relationship is tragic, relatable, and sweet. Please revisit Brother Bear.

22. The Black Cauldron

This movie has problems and the books are better but the movie is an exciting adventure. Eilonwy is sassy and rescues herself. Taran is whiny but grows up and the Horned King is f***ing terrifying.

21. Robin Hood

The reason people are furries. The animation may be bland but it’s a fun romp through a classic tale. Robin and Marion are cute but the show stealer is Lady Cluck who is flawless and has my vote.

20. Wreck-It Ralph

A fun video game movie is hard to find. Wreck-It Ralph has a lot of heart and is a sweet story about how you don’t need everyone to love you, just the people who matter. Subversive but also smart.

19. Peter Pan

My favorite as a Wee Lad. I’ve had a Peter Pan birthday and was him for Halloween twice. Disney’s only break-up movie, it’s about Wendy learning to grow up after Peter Pan is a player. Fun adventure with great animation.

18. Zootopia

A surprisingly smart and not too forced race allegory. A modern fable in the tradition of Aesop. Judy is a great protagonist and her and Nick have a touching enemies to friends dynamic. The world of Zootopia is fun and stunning.

17. Mulan

Mulan is a great movie with an amazing empowered but relatable title character, iconic songs, superb story-telling, a unique animation style, and a terrifying villain. It was my first movie in theaters. It’s only flaw is that I like other movies better.

16. Frozen 2

Every song is a bop and it is some of the most breath-taking animation I’ve ever seen. The story is messy and too magic-reliant. Elsa gets two power ballads but Anna is the real relatable, selfless hero. Kristoff is extra-hilarious in this one.

15. Tangled

This movie is a 90’s Disney movie told through a 2010 lense and that’s not a bad thing. This is some of the best 3D animation I’ve seen. The world of the movie is so charming and the songs have a Taylor Swift vibe

14. The Great Mouse Detective

Underrated classic and one of the few movies all of my siblings enjoyed. The best Sherlock Holmes(esqe) movie. I said it. Sherlock is shaking. Ratigan is one of the best and scariest Disney villains. The humor is great and the clock tower fight harrowing.

13. Alice in Wonderland

My mom and my childhood best friend’s favorite. Full of wit and creativity, most of it is Alice being like why is everyone so insane which makes it one of the most relatable Disney movies to adult me. Good Advice and Golden Afternoon are my favs.

12. Pocahontas

Definition of problematic fav. Wonderful, spiritual protagonist, beautiful animation, striking color theory, and a message about peace as the right path. Colors of the Wind and Just Around the Riverbend are two of my fav Disney songs. Just don’t think about the historical inaccuracy or cultural implications.

11. Moana

Moana features water that makes you want to go swimming. A Mythic adventure in an underexplored mythology is something I hope Disney does more of. Moana is such a loving, optimistic protagonist who uses compassion to defeat destruction and restore life and her people’s freedom. I love that.

10. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

Hot take, I know, but Snow White skipped so everyone else could run. A beautiful, painterly film about how a kind and optimistic heart is what truly makes one beautiful, this film is a timeless coming of age story that features dwarves way more memorable than Tolkein’s. At me.

9. Big Hero Six

A superhero movie that makes me cry and want to call my brother. A coming-of-age tale about a dorky teen and his much cooler older brother, and a marshmallow robot. The friendship and brotherhood between these characters warms my heart and it tells a touching story about sacrifice defeating revenge.

8. Aladdin

Another crowd pleaser in my family, this film captures the bouncy manic energy of hand drawn animation more than any other film. Robin Williams makes this film hilarious and Aladdin is Disney’s best male leads: kind, insecure, and a compulsive liar. One Jump Ahead is one of my fav Disney songs.

7. The Emperor's New Groove

Hands down the funniest Disney movie. The jokes in this movie slap and don’t get old. Eartha Kit brings it as Yzma and Kronk is the best Disney Sidekick. A fun but heartfelt story about learning to be less selfish is punctuated with the zaniest sense of humor in the Disney canon.

6. The Hunchback of Notre Dame

Disney’s darkest, most adult film features Alan Menken’s best score. Bombastic Latin chants highlights the gothic beauty of Notre Dame, the moral purity of innocent Quasimodo and compassionate Esmeralda, and the vile hypocrisy of Frollo. A complex, engaging film about justice for the oppressed and internal beauty that lowkey elevates Hugo’s maudlin tale.

5. Frozen

A movie about about sisterhood, never giving up on the ones you love, and the sacrificial nature of true love. Love isn’t easy and Frozen knows that. Every song in Frozen is a banger and I find Anna to be the most relatable Disney character to me as a youngest. Hans broke my heart.

4. The Little Mermaid

A sincere movie about a sincere mermaid who yearns for new worlds and understanding so much she’ll make a deal with iconic villain, Ursula. Ariel losing her voice and being unable to say how she feels still gets me in the feels. A soundtrack of jams and hand-colored animation elevate this film above the waves.

3. Beauty and the Beast

Disney’s best written movie despite all the knitpicks the internet puts it through. Beautiful songs, characters and animation, this touching story about finding inner beauty, true love and acceptance gets me every time. I cry when Belle confesses her love for the Beast. The climax of this film is so good. Sparkly firework kiss is goals.

2. Cinderella

My fav since childhood, Disney’s version of Cinderella is the definitive version of one of the most iconic characters in world culture. Cinderella’s kindness, gentleness and faith in her dreams has made her my role model in life. The animation is so simple and elegant and the music can bring me to tears. Have faith in dreams.

1. Sleeping Beauty

My all time favorite film about how True Love Conquers All. This is Disney’s best animation. The character designs and backgrounds are uniquely stylized and beautiful. The fairies are feminist icons. Aurora and Philip are charming and Maleficent’s the Mistress of All Evil. In Sleeping Beauty, romantic, parental and altruistic love triumph over evil and I love that.

Hope you enjoyed my unsolicited opinions on the Disney Animated Canon. Maybe you agreed with me, maybe you didn't. Let me know what you think and why in the comments below. I could talk about this forever.
